I have never come across a movie based on a book in which the movie is better than the book. The Princess Bride is no exception. Although the movie was a hit, the book was better, even with the A list of actors, including Billy Crystal, Peter Falk and Robin Wright. The movie is considered to be at the top of the list of the top 50 most quotable movies ever, and is now referred to as a cult classic. So why is the book better? The book concentrates on the father who is constantly trying to streamline a boring book into a book his son would like. The father desperately wants his son to enjoy it the same way he did.
Both the movie and the book present a classic story with the who, what, how where, (the book even provides a map), when and why. The characters are built and the storyline is a classic one with a predictable pathway. The vision of the princess, her true love, and the journey from there, follow a true hero’s journey.
